Editure wins place on NZ Schools' Managed Learning Environment project
Melbourne, Tuesday 24 February 2009 - Editure, the Australian-headquartered education services firm, is among three winning tenderers to partner the New Zealand Ministry of Education to develop its Managed Learning Environment (MLE), a range of web-based and digital tools used by schools, its teachers, students, parents and administrators.
Editure, the sole successful tenderer from outside New Zealand, will be funded by the Ministry to further develop myclasses, its web-based learning management platform for schools, to meet evolving interoperability standards. These standards will mean that schools will be able to share resources and over time work seamlessly in the greater managed learning environment. New Zealand schools who purchase a learning management system (LMS) from Editure do so knowing that the ongoing development pathway will in part be directed, supported and funded by the Ministry of Education.
"This win is enormous confirmation for the respect that Editure's product holds within international markets" said Peter Evans, General Manager, Education Technology at Editure. "The New Zealand Government has identified that the learning management system is the central hub of the teaching and learning activity, so to be trusted with a significant role in its future is testament to our track record."
Students will be able to enjoy the new style of learning opportunities and retain a digital record of learning that can mature and move with them. An MLE includes facilities for online collaboration and publishing, digital file repositories, e-portfolios, communication, content management and delivery, social networking, planning, course and assessment tools, federated search engines, identity and access management, parental portal, and all the commonly used student management system modules.
Editure is competing for similar opportunities in other markets and expects more opportunities to arise in the coming year, according to Peter Evans. "Ensuring close integration between a school's learning management systems and its administrative functions such that they can share data is an objective that every education system is considering, be they in New Zealand, Australia or elsewhere. For instance, all school systems want outputs from the classroom settings, such as attendance information and assessment results, to be entered easily and captured by the student management system. This need offers an array of opportunities for Editure."
